7Month 17 days,International China Environment Foundation (IFCE) and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) organize "International Wildlife Trade Dialogue:China and the World" online seminar。The dialogue brings together senior Chinese and foreign experts,Discuss the current challenges facing global wildlife protection,And the latest policies and legal countermeasures related to wildlife trade。About 150 people from all over the world attended this webinar。Speakers called for urgent coordinated action worldwide,Combating illegal wildlife trade,Together to prevent the next pandemic。

 

Speakers include Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary General of China Green Development Council; United Nations "Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora"(CITES)Former Secretary-General John E. Scanlon; Professor Qin Tianbao, Wuhan University; Grace Ge Gabriel, Director of the International Foundation for the Protection of Animals (IFAW) Asia; Wang Kang, Director of Beijing Botanical Garden Education Center; Daniel Mira-Salama, Senior Environmental Expert, World Bank; He Ping, President of IFCE; Former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations,Eric Solheim, Executive Director of UNEP。

 

 

Secretary-General Zhou talked about China Green Development Council’s efforts to promote China’s wildlife trade law in recent years.,Including public interest litigation,Rescue of pangolins and subsequent release in the wild。Mr. Scanlon emphasized the importance of international law and cooperation between countries。He pointed out that,The current lack of multilateral cooperation between various countries,This makes protection more difficult,Need for systematic coordination and cooperation。Professor Qin introduced his views on preventive measures to protect biodiversity。E.g,Prohibit the use of wild animals and plants as traditional Chinese medicine,The annual output value of the traditional Chinese medicine industry exceeds 75 billion US dollars,It may affect the livelihoods of many people。Ms. Gabriel shared IFAW's successful methods of protecting wildlife,The method emphasizes cooperation with local governments,And initiated local community education to reduce the poaching of wildlife。These methods have been successfully applied in many places including Africa and China。She mentioned that Sino-U.S. cooperation on banning ivory products has promoted elephant protection around the world.。 Mr. Salama brought the concept of "One Health Approach" to the participants:The environment,Consider human and animal health as a whole。He gave examples of how the deterioration of the environment will harm the habitat of wildlife,And eventually spread the virus carried by wildlife to humans。In the long term,Protecting biodiversity will make the planet's development more sustainable。Mr. Solheim emphasized the importance of the awareness and actions of international and national political leaders。President He Ping pointed out in the last comment,COVID-19 gives life,The economic and social losses clearly indicate the need for increased investment in preventive measures,Humans should develop early measures to ensure that we can prevent this from happening again。
